　　故事根据60岁的出租车司机Kempton Bunton在1961年从伦敦国家美术馆偷走了一幅戈雅的画的真实故事改编。Bunton发了一封勒索信说，只有在英国政府同意为老年人提供免费电视的条件下，他才会退还画作。 然而，事实证明他正在撒谎，在接下来的50年里，他都没有出现。该事件也是国家美术馆历史上首次也是唯一一次盗窃事件。

It was the actor's first starring role in a full-length feature and the film that launched his career.　　The plot was a merging of two stories, Bronson Howard's play The Henrietta and the novel The New Henrietta by Victor Mapes and Winchell Smith, which was meant to be an adaption of Howard's play.

This isn't terribly effective (you have to take a breath once in a while), so the wife of the burgomaster tries to soften up the invaders with a lavish carnival. So successful is this venture that the Spaniards allow the village to escape being decimated, or even taxed. An award-winner many times over, Carnival in Flanders was banned in Germany; evidently, Goebbels caught on that director Jacques Feyder and scenarists Bernard Zimmer and Charles Spaak were drawing deliberate parallels between the Spanish and the then-burgeoning Nazis.
